Keynote Speaker
Msgr. James Bartylla, Vicar General of the Diocese of Madison
“Eucharistic Revival, the Sacrifice of the Mass, and Knitting Together the Church”.
The Grant Vicariate would like to extend a warm welcome for you to attend the 68th annual
MDCCW Convention. The convention will be held in Lancaster WI which is the county seat
of Grant County. Grant County was named after the Grant River. The early history of Grant
County shows that mining and farming were prevalent trades using the Mississippi River to
transport their goods. We encourage you to make the scenic drive and attend the June
convention.
The theme of our Convention is “Quilted Together in the Eucharist”. The Madison Diocesan
Eucharistic Revival is being planned for September 29 – October 1, 2023 at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church in Waunakee WI. The National Eucharistic Revival will be held from July 17
– 21, 2024 in Indianapolis IN. The three year plan for the Eucharistic Revival started on June
19, 2022. It will consist of the year of Diocesan Renewal from June of 2022 ending on June 11,
2023. The next two years of the Revival will be the year of the Parish Revival in 2023-2024
followed by preparing ourselves as missionaries to share the good news of the Eucharist in
2024 -2025.
We have all heard about the Eucharist Revival and need to understand more about it so that
we can become better disciples in the Church. Not all of the members of the MDCCW may be
able to attend the Eucharistic Revival at the end of September. This is a good chance for us to
stay informed on the current programs on the topic in the Church. Our keynote speaker will
be Msgr. James Bartylla, the Vicar General of the Madison Diocese. His talk is titled
“Eucharistic Revival, the Sacrifice of the Mass, and Knitting Together the Church”.
Msgr. Bartylla will be giving a sneak preview of what he will present at the Eucharistic
Revival in Waunakee. He will also give a select summary of his nine-part Eucharistic revival
homily series.
The Convention Agenda and registration form is included in this newsletter. The day will
start at 8:15 – 9:00 am with registration and a continental breakfast in the St. Clement dining
hall. The dining hall is elevator and stair accessible from the entryway of the Church. With
the exception of the Mass which will be held in the Church, all activities will be held in the St.
Clement dining hall. Our MDCCW President Linda Ripp will preside over the annual
meeting.
Our keynote speaker Msgr. James Bartylla will give his informative talk on the Eucharist at
10:00 am. The Mass will be held upstairs in the Church at 11:00 am. Please invite your parish
priests to join in to con-celebrate Mass with Fr. William Vernon, current pastor and
Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt the MDCCW Spiritual Advisor. This will be the week of the
pastor changes in the new Pastorates. This will be good way to invite and welcome your new
Pastor and familiarize him with the MDCCW and what we do.
Our guest presenter in the afternoon will be Joey Mahieu an artisan quilter who specializes in
commissioned quilts and long arm machine quilting. Joey and her husband Don have a
business in Mineral Point called Against the Grain Studio and Gallery. Joey’s studio is where
she does her quilting. Her husband Don is a curator of various antique and vintage items.
Don and Joey both have expertise in new, vintage, and antique hand worked quilts. We look
forward to listening to her presentation on quilting.
We will hold a silent auction and same day ticket raffle. The silent auction is the MDCCW
annual fund raiser. There will be a wide variety of interesting basket items to bid on. The
proceeds from this auction help the MDCCW continue their work. The same day raffle will
have a few select items with the proceeds going to a specific charity that will be noted that
day.
The Convention co-chairs are Kathy Loy, Grant Vicariate President; Maureen Pickel past
Grant Vicariate President and current Immaculate Conception CCW President in Kieler; and
Carol Rogers, current President-Elect for the MDCCW as well as a past Grant Vicariate
officer. We all look forward to welcoming you to the Convention. The Sleep Inn and Suites is
a new hotel located in Lancaster WI if you need lodging. There are also other hotels in
Platteville WI which are located approximately 20 miles southeast of Lancaster.
We encourage all women to attend the convention to enjoy the beautiful countryside as you
make your way to Lancaster. The registration deadline is June 13. The registration cost will be
$35. The discounted fee will be $25 for ladies attending their first MDCCW convention. The
registration fee must accompany the registration form. The registration fee is non-refundable
but transferable. It should be mailed to Margaret Sprague, the Grant Vicariate Treasurer at
1605-14TH Street – Fennimore WI 53809.
We all need to remember that the Eucharist is the ultimate gift from God showing his Love to
warm our heart and soul. The Quilt is a gift to remind us of the Love sewn in every stitch to
warm our heart and soul. We look forward to hosting this convention and rekindling old
friendships and making new ones. Safe travels and we look forward to you joining us for the
day.
